If you have come directly to this topic, you may first wish to review the topic Forecasting resources.
For the
purpose of this example, we will assume a task with the constraint 'Must
Start On' and a start date of 1 April 2009.
See Adding project
tasks for more details on constraint types.
Tick the box against the Worker(s) you would like to resource to this task.
In the Days
field, enter the number of days work you require this user to complete.
The task Finish Date will update
in line with the task start date and the worker days resourced.
If the worker is of user type Associate, optionally set the Cost Rate per hour specific to this project task.
In this example, the Task Finish date has been automatically set as 7 April 2009 as it is 5 working days (as assigned to Catherine Grainger) after the Task Start date.
Add
further Worker resource assignments
as appropriate.
The Task Finish date will update
based on the worker who requires the greatest amount of time to complete
their resource assignment.
This is referred to as the critical path.
Factors that can affect the critical path include:
The % utilisation figure at which the worker can complete this resource assignment (see below for further details).
The worker core working hours per day
Approved holiday requests and/or non working time that will mean the worker requires longer to complete their resource assignment
Note: You
may wish to add Generic users
to the project team and use these for your initial resource plans.
This
allows you to forecast costs without allocating exactly who will be needed
to complete the work.
You
can later replace the generic users with actual staff from the project
team.
In this example, adding Worker John Kahn for 10 days has now extended the critical path of this task and pushed the Finish Date to 14 April 2009.
If you were to edit the % utilisation figure at which Catherine can complete her 5 days work to 25%, she would require 20 days to complete 5 days work, and would now becomes the critical path point for this task, setting the Task Finish at 28 April, 20 days after the Task Start.
Click Save when all updates have been made.
You can now review resource assignments in the Project > Resources screen.
Note: Remember - Do not use the Resources screen to calendar resource workers if you want to maintain the task start and end dates set for this accumulated work task.
